BACKGROUND & HISTORY:
Kalevala bone setting is originally a form of folk healing dating back hundreds of years and it is based on balancing the entire support structures kinetic chain through mobilization treatments. The current Kalevala bone setting is a mobilization therapy developed by Olavi Mäkelä. Olavi Mäkelä and Pentti Penttilä laid the foundation for training and its principles by developing the skills they learned from their circle of experts.
The method is clearly documented and protected as an official three-year training program organized by Kansanlääkintäseura. Kalevala mobilization therapy has been studied from the perspective of modern medicine since the 1980s when Dr. Antti Hernesniemi initiated collaboration with Olavi Mäkelä and Pentti Penttilä in Viisloppi and the Kansanlääkintäseura center in Kaustinen. Research on the provided treatment methods has also been conducted at the University of Kuopio.
